Employment Tax in Zambia

The Zambia Revenue Authority administers taxes, which are based on income at source or deemed source. Individual income tax is collected through PAYE, with rates up to 37.5%. Corporate tax is generally 35%, but reduced to 15% for agriculture and non-traditional exports, 33% for Lusaka Stock Exchange-listed companies, and raised to 40% for banks. Employers and employees contribute to the National Pension Scheme Authority, while both also pay 1% each towards National Health Insurance.

The Employment Code Act of 2019 governs the employment law in Zambia. This legislation enhances employee rights protection and enables businesses to thrive. A company must understand the local employment laws before setting up a local entity. However, partnering with an Employer of Records can save you this hassle. Let’s look at some vital aspects of Zambia’s employment laws.

  • Minimum Wage. There is no minimum wage in Zambia.
